Everything else

This is kind of a "keepsakes" box of interesting things on the internet

Other travel blogs and trip reports

When planning a big trip, travel blogs are of vital importance. Here are some that we have found useful, perhaps with a focus on the less popular ones.

The Road Chose Me – This is the original travel blog for me. I started reading about Dan’s PanAmerican trip when he was still in the states headed south, and it has stuck with me ever since. He is an incredible resource for all sorts of overland travel, and he is an incredibly friendly and cheerful guy to boot!

Tuckstruck – A well documented adventure around the world in an Iveco Daily. I hope to be like these two when we retire!

aweewalk – Some wonderful hiking adventures around the world, including many routes that are not well documented on the internet. Another couple that I hope to be like when we retire!

soaztim – Great adventures to seldom-visited locations in the southwest US with 4x4s – just what we like! Tim went on to start DirtSunrise with his wife Kelsey.

JeeptheUSA – Great trip reports with difficulty levels from all over the western US.

Dangerous Roads – an incredible repository of interesting roads all over the planet. I have contributed several roads, including this one.

Bikepacking Seis Miles Norte – the most insane cycling trip I’ve ever heard of

Hidden gems

Here is a list of websites that are hidden gems of the internet- sites that have an incredible amount of good information, but may be old, out-of-date, and unlikely to show up on search engines.

otherhand.org – a treasure trove of excellent storytelling about search and rescue in the deserts of southern California, including the story of the Death Valley Germans. Some interesting physics experiments as well!

alaskarail.org – a true labor of love, this site chronicles the history of the Alaska Railroad. Because of John, the Alaska Railroad is likely the best-documented railroad in the world. There is a ridiculous amount of information here.

Kilty’s Office – My crazy college mechanical engineer professor’s website. It is difficult to explain what the website is about- I like to think of it as a glimpse into the mind of a mad genius.
